The Basics of Wood Flooring

Traditionally, wooden floors have been popular for adding sophisticated character to any space. They are both beautiful and practical. Bringing warmth and texture to every room, wood flooring brings the outdoors inside by offering an inimitable blend of natural beauty and durability.

What are your options for selecting the right wooden floor, finish, and style? What does the selection process entail? To help you choose your wood flooring, we have compiled the essentials.

Construction

Often made of hardwood species, such as oak or maple, solid wood flooring consists of solid wood throughout its thickness. Engineered wood flooring, on the other hand, consists of multiple layers of timber and a solid wood veneer.

There is no difference between engineered hardwood flooring and solid hardwood flooring on the surface, and they can both be sanded back and refinished. As a result, it is more stable than solid wood, whose shape and strength can change with variations in temperature and relative humidity. Under floor heating is compatible with engineered wood, which has a high moisture tolerance and adds structural stability and strength to buildings. Engineered wood is designed to allow for wood expansion.

The wood used in this process is less slow-growing hardwood, so it is also an eco-friendly choice.

Finishes

The distinctive finish of these boards will make a style statement, whether the boards are reclaimed, antiqued, lacquered, stained, or oiled. They will anchor your space, restore the character of a house, or define distinct areas. The floor finish should be considered in relation to the amount of light in the room, the furniture to be included, the corresponding color scheme and how these elements will unite or counter. Choosing the right finish for your room should also be influenced by the practicalities of that space and how long it will last.

Eight hours later, the surface is ready for light use as it is beautiful, strong, and water-resistant. Aside from being the most environmentally friendly oil in the world, it is also the first and only one that does not contain VOCs or water.

Styles

Several types of boards can be used for floors – straight planks, herringbone and chevron parquets, panels, squares- the possibilities are endless.

However, parquet floors remain a popular choice thanks to their timeless character. Wood planks are cut into rectangles and placed zig-zag-style in an offset pattern, so the ends of each plank meet at a staggering point. Herringbone parquet is now popular in the 21st century. In contrast to chevron parquet wood, where the pieces are fitted together at an angle creating a point, the wood pieces are cut into a V-shape and tied to each other.

Additionally, you may also be able to adjust the width and structural thickness of the boards to suit your interior design requirements. Consider the size of your space and if a large format might be more appropriate than standard dimensions.
